Wanted: Hunters to Help Hungry Hoosiers

Wanted: Hunters to Help Hungry Hoosiers.IN – Caroline Pranger is 14 years old, attends Garrett Middle School, and enjoys hunting. This year’s deer season has been especially exciting for her as she was able to shoot her first deer ever! Using her crossbow, she was able to get an 8-pointer on the closing night of Youth Season. Caroline also just donated her first deer…to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry. Thank you so much Caroline! Your donation will help provide almost 200 meals in your community!

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry would like to remind ALL hunters and landowners about our deer donation program! After you’ve filled your freezer, please help us to feed those in need in your area by donating to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry’s “Meat” the need initiative. Just take your deer in to your local meat processor/butcher shop and tell them you would like to donate it to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry. There is NO charge to you! Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry partners with 82 meat processors statewide and encourages the donation of large game and livestock to our “Meat” the Need initiative, raises financial support to pay processing fees on these donations, and gives this nutritious meat to local hunger relief agencies.

Some think that hunger only affects the homeless or poor, this is definitely not the case. It could be your neighbor, a friend, a classmate of your child that is going to bed hungry every night. The economy may be showing signs of improvement but many hardworking Hoosiers are still living paycheck to paycheck, regularly having to choose between paying bills, getting much-needed medicines, and buying groceries. The struggle is real. When you have to live week-to-week, an unexpected bill of any sort (car repair, medical bill, etc..) can affect you immensely, throwing that already tight budget into a downward spiral. According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap, 31% of Indiana residents who work and who are food insecure don’t qualify for food-assistance programs. These residents have to turn to charitable food assistance networks such as food banks, pantries, hunger ministries, etc… The hardest commodity for these agencies to acquire is protein – which is an important component of every cell in the body, used to build and repair tissue, and one of the most valuable nutrients in the development and growth of a child. Unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry is working to provide this much-needed protein to the economically disadvantaged throughout Indiana. So please become part of this initiative and help us to make someone’s life a little more hunger-free – donate a deer today!

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry is always accepting donations to fund our “Meat” the Need initiative and are continuously looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts to feed the hungry and reduce hunger issues throughout Indiana.
