Tech Crew Makes An “Insane Idea” Happen
A Pendleton Firefighter and local barber, Steve Holt, has been undergoing cancer treatment. It started in this throat and was getting good reports that it was taken care of. Then he got some bad news. Steve was told the cancer had shown up in his lungs.
At present the outcome is still unknown. Within several weeks he will know what lies in store for him.
This brings us to our story today. A group of friends and some special “car-buddies” decided to take his unfinished street rod, a 1948 Sedan Delivery Willys Jeep, and finish the project he had begun many years ago. It’s one of those projects Steve always figured on finishing when he got time. But time was something he always found himself short of with everything else he was doing. Not only was there his day job as a barber but Steve was also very active as a volunteer with the local fire department and, of course, his devotion to his family and friends came first.
A group of friends after hearing about Steve’s cancer decided it was time the Willys Project” had been put on hold long enough. This past Good Friday a team lead by Mr. Steve Griffith came together to make Steve’s project car a reality.
This was not just a quick makeover. Everything that it would take to make Steve’s 1948 Willys shine was redone. Nothing was left untouched, nothing. The tech crew rebuilt the engine, completely finished the exterior and interior plus it were topped off with a new paint job…..all without Steve’s knowledge. All of this took place within a very short three week period.
All through the process the project went by the cover name of Project H-H in order to keep thos very secret project under wraps.
Friends from far and wide donated money for the parts/paint, but all of the labor was all free “because they wanted to make this happen “ and they did. The Jeep was delivered to Strve at his home today.
