State Road 234 in Hancock Co. to Close in July for Culvert Construction

Construction contractors plan to close State Road 234 in Hancock County in July to replace a drainage culvert channeling Barrett Ditch just east of State Road 9 near Eden.

The 60-day road closure is scheduled to begin on or after July 5, after Independence Day, and the highway is expected to be open to traffic by the end of September. Meantime, crews will be working in the area to clear right-of-way and relocate utility service lines.

During the road closure, a signed detour will direct highway traffic north to State Road 38 via U.S. 36/State Road 67 and State Road 109. State Road 9 is scheduled to close in June between State Road 234 and Pendleton to rebuild the bridge over Lick Creek in southern Madison County. For more information about the bridge construction project, go to https://lnks.gd/2/3Vhqj9.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) awarded the construction contract to Calumet Civil Contractors of Whitestown, Ind. based on its bid of $565,500, which was the lowest of five bids submitted for the project.
