Baked BeansIt seems that when I was growing up a lot of
fond memories were made in the kitchen and around the dinner
table. I always looked forward to the summers, especially
Sundays. I knew there was going to be a big Sunday dinner. My
Mother would start early in the morning baking pies and she just
wouldn’t bake 1 or 2. She baked enough for some of the neighbors
and who ever might drop in. We always had visitors dropping by
on Sundays.
Dad he would fire up the grill and he would grill a lot more
meat than we could eat but with people dropping by it always got
eaten. You could smell the aroma all over the neighborhood. My
Mother would make the very best baked beans and home made
macaroni and cheese you ever ate. And those fresh cut French
fries. Well this is making me hungry so I will share my Mothers
baked bean recipe with you. I hope you all enjoy these recipes
and make a lot of memories around your dinner table as I have;
it is a wonderful time of sharing. God Bless and enjoy.
Baked Beans
1 extra large can of Pork-n-Beans (I use Van Camp)
¾ pound dark brown sugar
½ cup catsup
6 strips bacon
½ cup chopped onion
Fry bacon, when it is about ½ done add onions and fry until
done. In the meantime pour the pork-n-beans, sugar, and catsup
in a large baking bowl. When your bacon and onions are done add
the it to the pork-n-beans (even the drippings) and bake till
warm, about 35 to 40 minutes. ENJOY!
