Pendleton District to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint

Pendleton District to Conduct Sobriety CheckpointLieutenant Tony Delello, Commander of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District, has announced there will be a sobriety checkpoint held somewhere in Henry County during the evening hours of Friday, March 16th, 2018, in conjunction with this month’s Operation Pull Over Blitz 43 Campaign,” Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

Motorists entering the checkpoint are asked to have their driver’s license and vehicle registrations readily available to minimize the amount of time they are delayed. Motorists can expect short delays of only two to three minutes during the checkpoint. Troopers will be out in force before and after the checkpoint looking to get impaired drivers off the roadways.

A FEW PRECAUTIONS:

  • If celebrating plan ahead and always designate someone as a designated driver.
  • Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you’ve been consuming alcoholic beverages.
  • If you are impaired, please call a taxi or call a sober friend or family member to come and get you.
  • If you are hosting a party, always offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure that all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
  • Remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk.  Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think that they are about to drive while impaired.

According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, last year the weekend beginning with St. Patrick’s Day had the highest number of crashes involving impaired drivers. With St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Saturday this year, ISP will be conducting random saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the state intended to make our roads safer. Motorists are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1. Give a vehicle description, location, and direction of travel. Never follow an impaired driver.Pendleton District to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint
