Madison County Drug Prevention Summit

Madison County Drug Prevention Summit

ANDERSON, IN- Intersect Inc. along with the Madison County Chamber will present the Madison County Drug Prevention Summit September 12th-13th at the Flagship in Anderson in supporting the fight against drugs in our area. Madison County has ranked among the worst offenders for drug abuse in the state for a number of years, with limited treatment programs and jails at or near capacity with drug users. Fighting from a responsive stance on this issue has not been successful as we slide lower and lower; Summit presenters unanimously agreed the new focus for efforts going forward needed to be prevention, and at all costs.

Along with observing national and regional trends, this year’s conference will play host to speakers like Jermaine Galloway, the “Tall Cop”. Officer Galloway is a national expert in alcohol and drug trends and is a resource for those involved with prevention, education and enforcement. Officer Galloway provides nationwide training to law enforcement, educators, treatment specialists and more. He will conduct a community scan prior to the summit, which will allow him to speak on what is happening locally and as well as draw comparison with national trends.

Additional speakers will cover topics on the Central Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking designation, legalization of recreational drugs, addictive coping mechanisms and more. Proceeds for the event will go towards supporting the critical preventative work we need here in Madison County, through educating kids and families as well as the underprivileged. Getting informed is a good way to begin combating this epidemic, but getting involved will help guarantee the success of this event and the initiatives it supports.
