REACTIONS
TO “SHOTS” CAUSE CONCERN FOR PET OWNERS!
New vaccine technology helps to provide safety and
effectiveness.
Due to the ease in which information can be passed and
posted on the Internet, these rare adverse events were
soon discussed in breeder blogs, veterinary websites,
and even in pet owner message boards. Owners became
concerned about the safety of the “routine” visit to the
veterinarian and wanted to know more information about
what the doctor was doing to their pet.
Although vaccinations have provided our pets with a
healthier quality of life over the last several decades,
the chance of one of these uncommon reactions had many
pet owners afraid to continue the recommended
vaccination protocols.
After more than a decade of intense research, veterinary
scientists have created a new type of vaccine that will
hopefully provide a safer level of protection without
the undesirable inflammation, fevers, and injection site
reactions that can happen with other vaccine types.
Called “recombinant” vaccines, this new technology uses
new viral vectors combined with the DNA of the disease
causing viruses.
All of these new vaccines and potentially, the new
protocols for using them can be a bit overwhelming. As
always, see your family veterinarian for the best advice
on how to keep your pet, and your family, healthy. To

the research that created them, visit
