AMAZING ITEMS FOUND IN THE STOMACHS OF OUR PETS!

Skills of veterinarians help to save lives of many who eat the wrong thing!

In a feat that might astound the professional sword swallowers and magicians across the world, a young puppy managed to swallow an 11” steak knife and live to tell about it. This is just one example of the strange and bizarre objects found on x-ray of our pets.

From all across the country, a recent contest had veterinarians send x-rays showing their patients with unusual items in their stomachs. Everything from the mundane rocks and sticks, to the irreplaceable 2 carat diamond wedding ring was found in a variety of dogs, cats, and other pets.

Many of the items that were eaten could be associated with food scents and therefore, were somewhat understandably “tasty” for the pets. However, cases such as the battery eating dog and the light bulb eating snake are still being pondered as to why any pet would want to eat these things. On occasions that are not completely uncommon, owners even report their pets chewing and swallowing certain unmentionable undergarments.

Due to the diligence of the pets’ owners and certainly to the skills and care of their local veterinary hospital, most pets appear to recover from their eating adventures and surgery rather well. Veterinarians advise that owners keep the temptation of garbage cans behind locked doors, use baby gates and closed doors where needed, and even a daily walk through of the home to remove any potential “treats”. When walking pets outdoors, owners are advised to take care to watch any dog overly interested in items found on the ground, such as walnuts or trash.
