INDOT Awards $23.9M Construction Contract for U.S. 40 and U.S. 27
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded a $23.9 million construction contract to Gradex, Inc. to rebuild nearly two miles of southbound U.S. 27 and nearly one mile of eastbound U.S. 40 through downtown Richmond.
Staking and clearing of right-of-way may begin as early as March 1. A specific start date for road construction and scheduled traffic restrictions will be announced in the near future.
About the project
Southbound U.S. 27 (8th Street) construction will span from the bridge over the Whitewater River, near Sim Hodgin Parkway, to the South O Street overpass. The curved alignment of 8th Street near North C Street will be straightened.
Eastbound U.S. 40 (South A Street and 11th Street) construction will span from the bridge over the Whitewater River gorge to 11th Street and will include 11th Street from South A Street to Main Street.
Both highways will be rebuilt in sections. One lane of traffic will be shifted to one side of the road while the other side is closed for construction. South A Street and 8th Street will remain open during construction, and 11th Street will be closed for up to 45 days. U.S. 40 traffic will be detoured to 16th Street during the closure of 11th Street.
