Doug Zook Assumes New Duties As Economic Development Specialist For Urban Downtown Development

City of AndersonDoug Zook, Superintendent of Parks, assumes new duties as the Economic Development Specialist for Urban Downtown Development Monday, August 13; a vital role that has been vacant since Mayor Kevin S. Smith took office in January.

Downtown urban development has been missing inAnderson. Doug Zook’s experience and expertise in marketing compliments our efforts in developingAndersonas a whole. As the past owner of State Theatre, Doug Zook has the background for a position in developing  business in downtown Anderson and the connections to those in that area. Zook has built a tremendous network with those vital to achieving success.

His historical background and experience associated withAnderson, more specifically downtownAnderson, happened to be right on target for the development we look to accomplish during my administration. “Mayor Smith said.

Doug’s duty is to round out the Economic Development department. The Smith administration had success this year with the expansion of Home Design Product and the recent Greenville Technologies Incorporated -Andersonannouncement. More specifically, Zook’s responsibilities will include filling downtown vacancies, addressing traffic patterns, and maintaining historic neighborhood issues, festivals, and events.

Precision Strip Inc. Announces Anderson Expansion

The company is committed to ten employees over the next three years

Precision Strip Inc., 3518 West 73rd Street, is scheduled to begin their 72,000 square foot expansion inAndersonlater this month. The company plans to hire ten employees over the next three years at $18 -$19 an hour. The total estimated investment by the company in the city of Anderson is $7 million.

Precision Strip, founded in 1977, is one of the world’s leading toll processors of steel and aluminum. The company has twelve locations centrally located throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama,Tennessee, Monterrey, Mexico, and three locations inIndiana; Portage, Rockport, and the Anderson facility which was acquired in 2000.

Precision Strip processes metal for a broad range of industries, including automotive, appliance, and other industrial manufacturers. The expansion in Anderson will help support a growing customer base of automotive stamping facilities in this region.

City of Anderson has offered Precision Strip Inc. a standard ten year real property and personal property tax abatements. The estimated value of the tax abatements is $1,062,716. Despite the abatements, over the next 20 years the company is projected to pay $5,981,130 in property taxes.

“Precision Strip shows a strong commitment to the community and their employees. We are thankful that the company chose to continue expanding in Anderson when other alternatives were presented.
