Colts-Verizon HopeLine Collection – Help Prevent Domestic Violence Sunday, Nov. 12

Colts-Verizon HopeLine Collection – Help Prevent Domestic Violence Sunday, Nov. 12Colts fans and visitors to Lucas Oil Stadium are being asked to donate their no-longer-used cell phones and wireless accessories at the Sunday, Nov. 12 game for a special HopeLine collection to benefit Coburn Place Safe Haven.

HopeLine from Verizon allows individuals donate no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories that directly benefit their local communities. Verizon turns these devices into support for local domestic violence organizations and programs.
Wireless phones and accessories – in any shape and from any carrier – can be donated on game day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside Lucas Oil Stadium entrance gates where up to 30 volunteers will be assisting in the collection.

“The generosity of Hoosiers, Colts fans and other supporters make these community grants a reality,” said John Granby, Verizon Great Lakes market president. On the Nov. 12 game day, Verizon will also deliver a $26,500 grant to Coburn Place, which also includes a contribution from the Colts.

The fan donations made at the Nov. 12 game will directly benefit survivors of domestic violence who live in transitional housing at Coburn Place in Indianapolis. Since opening in 1996, Coburn Place – which serves residents throughout Indiana – has provided 564,907 days and nights of housing to 708 adults and 1,148 children.

“Coburn Place wouldn’t exist to offer safe and secure housing with access to meaningful resources without donations like these,” said Julia Kathary, president and executive director of Coburn Place.

Coburn Place serves survivors who are often on a waiting list for much-needed, transition-in-place community housing. Coburn also provides residents a wide range of programming – life skills, support groups, financial empowerment and healthy relationship workshops. Ninety-eight percent of individuals successfully completing the transitional housing program at Coburn last year exited for permanent housing.
