Oprah's Vet Urges Dog Owners to Take Action to Stop Dental
Disease - the #1 Diagnosed Disease for Dogs
November 2006 (Medialink) - Sink your teeth into this - eight
out of ten dogs show signs of gum disease by age three. If left
unchecked, poor dental care can lead to life-threatening
complications - including liver, kidney, and heart disease.
While most dog owners admit that taking care of their dog's
teeth is important, only half of them have their dogs on a daily
dental routine. With a culture so obsessed with our own teeth,
it's hard to imagine why dog owners don't take the health of
their four-legged family members more seriously. Leading
veterinarian Dr. Sheldon Rubin is spearheading the national
Chews to Care educational and advocacy campaign to educate
America's dog owners about the importance of doggie dental care.
During the campaign, Dr. Rubin will offer tips and expert advice
to help dogs live healthier lives by maintaining healthier
teeth.
Did you know?
Out of 70 million dogs in the U.S., roughly 35 million plus are
in desperate need of dental care.
Most dog owners believe dental care is the least important
health issue, but periodontal disease is the #1 diagnosed
condition.
A dental chew a day is a key to keeping a dog's poor health
away.
