$3.1M Construction Contract for Four Projects on U.S. 35 Starts in July
Milestone Contractors plans to begin work after Independence Day on a $3.1 million construction contract that includes four separate pavement, bridge and drainage structure projects on U.S. Highway 35 in Wayne County.
Utility relocations and clearing of the right-of-way will precede construction. All work on the contract is expected to be complete before December. Specific dates and traffic restrictions will be announced in advance for each project location. Only one project in this contract shall have U.S. 35 closed at any one time.
During the three closures of U.S. 35, highway traffic will be detoured around construction via State Road 1 and Interstate 70 until State Road 38, which will be closed for a separate project, is open to traffic. State Road 38 is scheduled to close on or after May 1 for up to 90 days for construction on two bridges between U.S. 35 and Centerville Road. The following construction sequence and schedules are subject to change:
Culvert replacement at Morgan Creek
Milestone is currently scheduled to begin work after Independence Day to replace a drainage culvert under U.S. 35 immediately west of Carlos Road. U.S. 35 will be closed at this location for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
Culvert replacement at Cain Ditch
Milestone will then move the road closure of U.S. 35 to begin replacing a drainage culvert immediately north of State Road 38. This closure is currently scheduled for late July to early August.
Bridge rehabilitation at Martindale Creek
Milestone is scheduled to then close U.S. 35 to maintain and preserve the bridge over Martindale Creek, which is west of Economy between Jacksonburg and Charles roads. This closure is currently scheduled for early August to early September.
Paving from I-70 to State Road 38
Repairing and resurfacing pavement on U.S. 35 between the Interstate 70 interchange and State Road 38 is scheduled to begin in early September. One lane on U.S. 35 and all interchange ramps at I-70 are expected to remain open during paving.
