Pendleton, Indiana (September 2, 2012) The 6th annual P-Town Regatta held at Falls Park here in town had one of the largest turn outs in recent times. Not only were there more entries this year there were also a larger crowd that came to the park to watch the race.

The “P-Town Regatta” is held yearly during Labor Day weekend with locals vying to win the title as the best and craftiest home boat builder.

Rules for the regatta are pretty simple. No motors, gas or electric, and everything that goes into making the boat are items found around your house. All ages are welcome to enter their craft. The officiating and water entry, a.k.a. “nudgers and shovers”, get things moving at the start of the race which is handled by several brave adults who aren’t shy about getting a little wet.

This year winners not only got bragging rights trophies were also awarded to winners in several categories.

While the race starts off a bit slow it really picks up steam as the boats are coached toward the faster water down stream in the river. After that the race is really on and it’s not long afterward that the top boats begin to emerge.

There were a lot of very cool creations again this year with many of last years boats making another showing after they were tweaked out to overcome a bit of a floatation problem some encountered during the previous year’s race. Again this year some of the top boats were the ones of the simplest designs.

The top boat for 2012 was a run-away winner. Shipped in all the way fromGreenvilleTexasthis surprise entry took a commanding lead about half-way through the race. The owner, whose name is Gala, will be receiving her first place trophy in just a few days as well as bragging rights until next year’s race.

Adult winner: Gala from Greenville, TX
Child winner: Shawn Jarrett from Pendleton, IN
Best in Show: Chris Ronk, Pendleton, IN
